WILLIAM LANGEWIESCHE
The Atomic Bazaar
Saturday, May 19 at 11 AM

Renowned journalist William Langewiesche (American Ground, The Outlaw Sea) takes on the most critical issue of our times: the burgeoning global threat of nuclear weapons production. This is the story of the inexorable drift of nuclear weapons technology from the hands of the rich into the hands of the poor. From Hiroshima to the present day, Langewiesche describes a timely reality of urgent consequences to us all.

Revolution in the Bleachers

REGAN MCMAHON
Revolution in the Bleachers: How Parents Can Take Back Family Life in a World Gone Crazy Over Youth Sports
Tuesday, May 22 at 7 PM

In Revolution in the Bleachers, Bay Area journalist Regan McMahon tackles an issue that affects so many families, pointing out that kids spend more time in organized sports than ever before with little downtime, with increased pressure to do well, and with serious injuries previously seen primarily in professional athletes. Her own epiphany came to McMahon when she and her husband found themselves running around the Bay Area to sports events with their two children, then ages 11 and 14 — in separate cars with separate children. "This is nuts," McMahon is quoted as telling herself in a Chronicle review. "Is this really the best version of childhood we can offer our kids?"

McMahon offers sensible answers based on extensive research. "Finally," says author Michael Gurian, "someone has taken a look at what the runaway youth sports culture is doing to kids and the American family. We need this book!"
