There are plenty of advantages in upgrading to a brand new, maintenance-free, distributor. You won´t have to replace or adjust points, nor replace the condenser. The distributor is delivered with several different pre-programmed curves. Just pick the correct one for your engine.

Assuming your old ignition coil is in good shape, you won´t have to replace it. It will work well along with a 123 Ignition piece!

The new distributor will however create a slightly more powerful spark. This will increase the risk of old ignition coils or cables to malfunction compared to sticking with the original equipment. Hence, replacing your ignition coil when installing a 123 distributor is at least worth considering, and your old coil won´t last forever anyway…
