Award for One of our
Own
Every two years Annette Ritchie travels to Hobart to manage the
volunteer program for the Australian Wooden Boat Festival, the
AWBF. The largest festival of its kind in the Southern
Hemisphere.
Recently the AWBF took out Hobart City Council’s award for Best
Practice in Volunteer Management for a Community Event at a recent
ceremony at the Hobart Town Hall.
The complex job of recruiting, communicating with and rostering more
than 350 workers on site over 4 days goes to Volunteers Manager,
Annette Ritchie, who is herself a volunteer. Annette travels all the
way from her Sydney home for each festival and we are delighted that
she is with us again for the 2015 event. Well done, Annette, this one’s
for you!
You’ve been asking for another Island Festival, well Emmie Collins is
once again stepping up to the plate to organize the 2014 Winter
Solstice Festival which will be held in Catherine Park on Saturday 22nd June, 10am
to sunset. Come and warm your body and soul. There will be
musicians, stalls, winter warming food and fun for the kids and adults
alike. Don’t miss Emmie’s famous sunset lantern parade.
If you would like to volunteer to assist with this year’s Winter
Solstice, please get in touch with -
Jenny - 0410 533 728 mailto:jenny_frazer@hotmail.com
or
Emmie - 0405 330
781 mailto:emstar@tpg.com.
Annette
is usually involved in the volunteer management role much
closer to home at our Island festivals and said that in her experience,
by volunteering you not only give back to your Community, but you can
also learn a new set of skills and become involved and close to the
action of the event.

WOW Meeting
French
language , food and culture - next WOW meeting
Saturday 21st June @ 12 45 pm
Dear all WOW members
Robbie Hand will be convening the next WOW meeting is to be held at
Carolyn Milani's home 19 Florence terrace , Scotland Island on Saturday 21 June @ 12 45 pm.
Robbie is the French teacher @ St Luke's, Dee Why and her favourite
topic is "vive la france" so come
with appropriate food and attire its easy to dress rouge / blanc / bleu
and she is most knowledgeable as she has lived in France for quiet some
time.
Also Robbie is new to the western foreshores and she lives with her
partner Chris McGrath @ "Trincomalee"
so WOW has been very vital for her to meet the locals and we do embrace
the guys so feel free to invite your partners and we have been
discussing the possible change from Wow to Pow ----- People on Water so
as to include everyone.
Angela Cooney has kindly offered to host WOW 27 September or 18 October in
Elvina Bay, the date to be confirmed closer to the time and she is a
zoologist so her first love is the animals and environment.
So we have two very diverse topics and look forward to your
contribution and it follows on very well from the seed freedom movement
and the
Quality of water and in general our well being.
