Next week's speaker is Cate Barrow who lives near the Brecon Beacons, Cate will be presenting her talk called UK Wildlife Images
 
This will be a Zoom meeting, with Cate being beamed simultaneously into the clubroom in wonderful Cinemascope & Dolby Surround Sound and to those at home, on boring PC monitors.
 
Cate is a Director in an Environmental Consultancy Company and also runs a small hedgehog rescue along side my photography. 
She photographs wildlife bpth on land and underwater and has photographed all of the UK Butterlfy species - the talk will cover UK birds, mammals, butterflies and a few underwater images: mainly sharks!

Print Competition - Round 2
The closing date for the next round of the bi-monthly Print Competition is Wednesday, November 23rd. The optional Prescribed Challenge topic on this occasion is Square Format and the judge will be Peter Weaver LRPS, CPAGB, APAGB.
 
There is a box for entries by the stage in Unit 13 and, as before, Wex have kindly agreed to have another box available for anyone not attending our evening meetings.
 
Full rules for competitions can be found in the Members' Portal of the BPS website and, if you have not already downloaded entry labels for your prints, you can find the link to download them at the foot of Competitions Closing Dates page.

PRINT COMPETITIONS - IMPORTANT MESSAGE 
Will all members entering Print competitions please note that entries MUST be accompanied by a jpeg copy of the submitted prints. Prints where the jpeg is not received will not be judged. 

Each jpeg should be labelled simply with your name and the print title.

Hybrid/Zoom Meetings
In an attempt to spread the load when it comes to sharing the Wednesday meetings with those at home, Matt (de Beger) is looking for volunteers to help with the running of our weekly hybrid meetings. To this end, he has organised a series of familiarisation sessions during the coming weeks. The sessions will cover:
  • Logging into Zoom & default settings
  • Presenting from the Desktop (PowerPoint, Images, .exe files etc)
  • Presenting from the Lectern 
  • Presenting via online speaker
  • Presenting Prints
  • Bit of troubleshooting 
 
The sessions will be held on:
  • Friday 25 Nov @ 19:00hrs
  • Sunday 27 Nov @ 15:00hrs
  • Saturday 10 Dec @15:00hrs

RWA Photo Open 2023
  A unique opportunity for anyone that works with the photographic medium  
 
The RWA in Bristol is hosting a landmark Photo Open Exhibition running from 28 January to 1 May 2023.  
 
The Photo Open, sponsored by MPB, is a unique opportunity for photographers to show and sell their work in one of the UK’s most prestigious and beautiful art galleries.  
 
Entry is open to everyone, professional or amateur. A selection panel including internationally acclaimed artists will review every entry. If selected, entrants’ work will be shown in the RWA’s main galleries alongside some of today’s leading photographic artists and seen by thousands of visitors and potential buyers – and available to buy online for a global audience.
 
There are also some very attractive prizes, including:  
  • Teresa Knowles Bursary Award – £1,500 towards a photography trip to Italy PLUS the opportunity of exhibiting your work at the RWA  
  • MPB Sponsor Awards – £1000 voucher to spend on photographic kit; plus two runner up awards of £500 vouchers  
  • Niche Award – cash prize of £250 plus voucher of £250 towards printing or framing   
Up to three entries may be entered by each applicant for consideration by the Selection Panel. Entries can be single images or limited series*; they can be simple photographs or artworks that include a photographic element, including 3-D works. The selected works must be available for sale at the exhibition, and framed or presented in an exhibitable format.  
 
Standard entry fee is £21.00 per work/series (£15.90 for students and Friends of the RWA).  
 
The submission deadline is Monday 5 December 2022.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: 
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
 
 
Items For Sale
Steve Field has recently had some pretty major problems with his PC, the upshot of which is that the majority of the machine has been replaced, reshaped or otherwise beaten into submission, which has left him with a few items surplus to requirements. The following items are being offered free to anyone who can make good use of them:
  • 64Mb DDR4 2133 Memory in 8No 8Mb sticks
  • Intel Processor (still in Motherboard that has a problem}, Core i7 6800k 3.4GHz (wouldn't fit in new Motherboard!) 😥
  • Noctua 120 CPU Air Cooler +single Fan and fixing bits (Also would not fit on new Motherboard!) 
  • Samsung 250Gb NvMe 950 M2 SSD (will need formatting as it still has my junk on it!)
