Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 16 October
Next week sees the beginning of the 2015-16 Print Competition season; this Round (1) is being judged by Gordon Jenkins APAGB.

Digital Imaging Group
Ashwin has sent me the following (you will need to make a note of the Lightroom session in your diary as there will be no newsletter to remind you:

1. DI Meeting is on Monday 12 October. As usual all members are welcome. Please bring along your images as prints or on a flash drive in jpg format for others to admire or invite comments. Andrew Marker will be showing some of his latest images of Yellowstone taken only last week. To make it easy to organise viewing the images it would help if the all images you wish to show on the flash drive are in a folder of your name. I am hoping that there will be a short feature of technical nature during the evening.

2. Lightroom Session. The first of the extra DI evenings devoted solely to Lightroom is planned for Monday, 2nd November 2015 at the clubroom at 7.30pm.  The speaker will be Bob Micklethwaite who is well accomplished in the use of Lightroom, a good speaker and well organised in the delivery of his talk from my previous experience. He would cover the overview of Lightroom (not the Book, Slideshow or Web modules) and focus on Library, Develop and Print modules, all of which I think should interest users of Lightroom. The list of topics to be covered is listed below.
I would apppreciate if those wishing to attend the evening please let me know (a.chauhan@blueyonder.co.uk) as soon as possible so that I can make all the necessary arrangements for the evening. I am also planning further small workshop sessions on Elements and Photoshop in future and if anyone is interested please let me know what topics they are particularly interested in.

Many thanks.
Ashwin

Macro Photography Workshop
Wildarena, in conjunction with Calumet (Bristol) are holding Macro Introduction Sessions on 13 October at Calumet's Bristol branch. The following is from their website:

This is a great way of getting started with this fascinating area of photography. The half-day sessions will begin with an introductory presentation that aims to cover the basic questions and difficulties surrounding macro photography. We will cover a variety of topics including, the choice & use of macro lenses, keeping things in focus & the creative use of depth-of-field, managing movement in the images with shutter speeds and the correct use of other related accessories.
We will then move onto a ‘hands-on’ practical demonstration of techniques where guests will have the chance to try and capture their own images of some great close-up subjects brought along especially for the day. We will usually not only have some flowers and plants but also some fascinating smaller creatures like Stick Insects, Praying Mantis, Geckos and Tree Frogs. These subjects will be available to photograph with a choice of either continuous light and flash light, which Wild Arena will bring along and demonstrate.
The sessions are ideally suited to customers using D-SLR cameras and Wild Arena have Canon and Nikon fit macro lenses to try out on the day if you do not already own one.
With small group sizes of a maximum of 8 delegates and the convenient and comfortable setting of photography stores, these days are great value for those photographers wishing to develop their skills into macro and close-up.

The cost is £69 per person and bookings can be made by following this link.
