Singlehandedly! Last but Not Least
Portland Story Theater’s solo performance festival, Singlehandedly, completes its 4 week run this Friday with a terrific line up: Slash Coleman, Lynne Duddy, and Lawrence Howard.

Coleman, who used to live in Portland, is a professional storyteller best known for his award winning PBS special and Off-Broadway show, “The Neon Man and Me.”. He has spent the last 10 days working with Duddy, Howard and the rest of the Singlehandedly! crew to fine-tune his story, “The Last American Gladiator.” It’s all part of Portland Story Theater’s collaborative approach to this creative work. All eleven performers in the festival have been engaged in this process for many weeks: sharing and refining and shaping their stories together as a group, as well as running lights and sound and working the bar and front of house at each others’ shows.

But for Slash Coleman, this has meant traveling to Portland and devoting 10 days to intensive workshop sessions, sharing time and energy, stories, tears and laughter to create this iteration of "The Last American Gladiator." Howard and Duddy, founders of Portland Story Theater, have worked right along with him to create their own stories. And these stories are as diverse as the performers: some touching, some funny, all human. Each story has its own voice; the voice of the teller.

The final show of Singlehandedly! is happening this Friday, May 13th at Hipbone Studio.
