Next Wednesday, 2 November, our speaker will be Chris Ryan ARPS from Kingston Upon Thames, who will be presenting his talk called (appropriately enough) The Work of Chris Ryan. Chris will be exploring various aspects of his work and ethos, from landscape and reportage, portraiture to horses…to sport.
|
The next Studio group meeting will be on Friday 18 November. Nick has carefully listened to feedback from members and has arranged a very special day. Andy Hoang (Calumet) will bring and demonstrate the latest lighting techniques with professional model Danielle, who modelled for Damien Lovegrove at BPS a few weeks ago. Click here to see more about Danielle.
This should be a great opportunity to get very high quality images of a highly regarded professional model. In response to feedback Nick has received, the day will be arranged into two sessions each lasting two and a half hours: members can sign up for one or both sessions, if you come to both sessions Danielle will be in different outfits in the afternoon.
The cost of the session will be £35 each or £65 for the full day.
Nick does need a minimum number of people to make this viable so if you could sign up sooner rather than later that would be great. Sign up is through the Doodle poll which can be accessed here. Please could you make sure that you add, as a comment, your phone number and email address so that Nick can send confirmations out. |
Studio Lights - Recent (Near) Conflagration
|
The keener eyed amongst you will have noticed that, for the last few weeks, there has been an empty light support on the lighting gantry. This has followed an evening a couple of weeks ago when the Bristol Astronomical Society turned up for their weekly Friday meeting, only to be greeted by the acrid smell of burning plastic and clouds of smoke in the studio area and the sound of the fire alarm going off which caused the evacuation of the building. The problem was soon traced to one of the studio lights which had gone into melt-down following an internal fault!
The upshot of this little episode, which could have been much worse without the quick thinking of Pete Quin (BAS) who turned off the power to isolate
the lights and stopped what could have turned out to be rather nasty, is that we must now say that anyone who uses the studio MUST, at the end of their session, double check that ALL the lights are switched off and (to be doubly sure) that the power cables are pulled out from the back of EVERY light.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers
of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't
include them all. So please only advise of awards or other
milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
If
you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the
details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers
through the Newsletter - send to the usual address. |
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free.
