PAGB PDI Championship
Last Saturday saw the judging of this annual competition that saw us compete with the best two clubs from each Federation.

After an excellent start (joint 4th after round 1 – first 8 images – scoring 98 points), we came 10th in round 2 for the next 8 images (95 points) but more importantly, adding the two together, placed us in 8th overall with 193 points, qualifying for the FINAL.

In the final round we had to select 10 previously un-used images from the pool and up to 10 images used in the earlier rounds.   You can see the selected images below.  At the end we’d amassed 242 placing us 8th overall, sadly one point below Smethwick. The consolation prize – as a finalist this year we automatically qualify for next year's competition – so get photographing / creating Smile

Rolls Royce remained the club to beat, taking the overall title with 269 points!

Not to be completely outshone, Sue O’Connell had one final triumph receiving a judge’s selection, silver medal from Marilyn Roberts, for her Caro Woman and Child.  Well done Sue.

Below are the images (+ scores) used in the Final:

Situations Vacant
We are constantly on the lookout for members to help with the day to day running of the Society. We are at present looking for someone who can help support/back up Matt de-Beger, who has single handedly run the IT side of our systems for the last couple of years.

We are looking for someone who has a basic knowledge of Wordpress so that there is a backup for the BPS website in the unlikely event of Matt coming into contact with that proverbial omnibus. The lucky applicant would also be able to assist in running the Society's email system and what is hugely important, our weekly Zoom meetings.

If you are interested or would like more information, please contact the Chairman, Ralph Snook, in the first instance - chairman@bristolphoto.org.uk

BPS Photography Course
The BPS annual photography course is now open for applications to join - please see our website page - click here

Please spread the word on your Facebook or Instagram pages or whatever other social media sites you belong to - don't forget that the more members we can get on the course, the longer your annual BPS subscription will go without needing to be increased!

External Competitions
News from Mike Martin (External Competitions Secretary):

Upcoming Competitions.

Kingswood Salver – 13 Nov 2021
OK, this is some way off, but following our fantastic win last year, we need to start thinking about how we can pull together a panel (five images from 5 different photographers) for this year.

Here are a few ideas to get you started: Characterful portraits (male or female), architecture, abstract, etc.

If anyone has any ideas of a theme please let Mike know... remember it has to be broad enough that others can provide complementary images. Feel free to send Mike any suggestions and/or a few thumbnails Smile

PAGB Inter-Club Print Competition
Like the PDI competition above, the print equivalent is due to be held at Smethwick PS in September (historically this has been held in Chorley, but has been relocated this year).

BPS will be representing the WCPF having won the WCPF Print battle in 2019 (there was no competition in 2020).

Selection has yet to be made, but please dust off your printers, etc, and stand by to offer up your best prints*.

We will require 15 images, no more than 3 per photographer, a minimum of 5 mono and 5 colour, but no more than 4 nature.

* if printing/mounting is problematic, Mike Martin is happy to print for individuals in the same way as we did for the GB Trophy competitions.*

Amateur Photographer of the Year

Come on guys, we should be able to win this (the Club entry - £500 for the winning club).

Currently following judging of 5 rounds BPS, solely on the back of Mike Martin’s individual performance, currently lies 4th! (Mike is equal 12th in the individual rankings). There are three rounds to go: Portraits, Travel and Street.

Details can be found here – or simply ask Mike.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

For Sale
