Hello Firstname

Wednesday 27 March

Next Wednesday is possibly the highlight of the club programme (not that I'm biased!), when we get the chance to see the World Premiere of the 2019 Bristol Salon of Photography. From a total of just under 10,000 images submitted to this year's salon, the selectors whittled these down to 2,300 acceptances. On Wednesday you will see the top 750, or so, of these, all set to a musical background which has been carefully matched to the images by Andrew Marker and his team. This is an evening not to be missed and one where you get the chance to see some of the very best images in the world.

The Sap is Rising
Spring is in the air and your creative juices should be starting to flow because the BPS Creative Competition is not far away. Here, as a gentle nudge, is a reminder ….

The competition will be held at the AGM on July 3rd and will be judged by Colin Harrison FRPS.

Rules:
  1. This is an Open competition, with no levels of entry.
  2. Images may have been entered into any previous club competition and may be entered into any subsequent bi-monthly or annual competition, other than this one.
  3. Each entrant may submit up to three images. These may be all DPI, all Print or any combination of the two.
  4. The judge will select a Best DPI, a Best Print and award the trophy to one of these two.
  5. The Trophy winner will not be eligible to enter the next two Creative Competitions.
  6. For this competition, a submitted image must have originated as a photographic image or images, produced either in camera or by post processing. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. Artwork or computer graphics generated by the entrant may be incorporated so long as the original photographic content predominates. Digital skills should be seen as the tools to compose photographic images into one new single image. The final composition will show the photographer’s artistic interpretation.

The closing date for entries will be 12 June.

We hope you will rise to Bob Faris’s challenge, have some creative fun and make this a well-supported and successful competition.

If you have any questions, please address them to David Alderson or Ken Clarke.

Trumpet Blower's Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website.
