Matthew 17:1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
GOOD TO BE HERE
Alone with Jesus! What a privilege for Peter and the Zebedee brothers! What a joy it must have been to be able to talk with Jesus in that small group. And He took them up on a high mountain, where they could be all alone with Him, uninterrupted. What would you talk about if you could be with Jesus in such an intimate setting?
Perhaps they pointed out the wonderful view of the landscape from that altitude, as they later pointed out to Him the tremendous stones of which the temple was constructed. Here on the high mountain there must have been more than one "scenic view" to point out to Him. But there was also the chance to speak with Jesus about whatever puzzled them or whatever troubled them. I wonder if they took the opportunity to ask Him if there was anything troubling Him.
Then, too, there must have been a certain sense of safety in being alone with Jesus. It didn't really matter where He took you, He seemed to be in control. He wasn't a fisherman, but He knew where the fish were. He wasn't a sailor, but He could rebuke the winds and waves.
It must have been nice to have some quiet time alone with Jesus, and we should know! On our way to work or school, as we straighten up from our work and wipe the sweat from our brow, as we go through our daily routines, we too can be "alone with Jesus." His words are hidden in our hearts, and we too can bring to Him what puzzles or troubles us, for He is with us always. ...
