Wednesday 29 March

Next week sees the fourth and final round of the 2022-23 Projected Image Competition, which is being judged by Brian Coleman AFIAP AWPF APAGB HonFWPF from Bridgend, South Wales.

Unfortunately, Brian's health is not too good at present, so the judging will be beamed into the clubrooms via the wonders of Zoom. We have done this before and it proved to be very successful, and dare I say it: "it was just like the judge was in the room!"

Amateur Photographer - APOY 2023
Following on from last week's article about the APOY (repeated below), we have now had the results of the first round Nature PDI and Steve Field has sent me this short report:

A good start with a min of 30 points gained in the 1st round, but we can do better!!

Jay Hallsworth had 3 shortlisted
Mike Martin had 1 shortlisted
Steve Field had 3 shortlisted

If any of the above 7 shortlisted images are awarded, we will really be in the points as a club. 😎

Travel next, so no excuses, as we are a well-travelled bunch of snappers 🙂

See Mike or me for details
Steve Field

So come on, give it a go, if only for the glory of the club! Ed.
Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOY)

As Ralph has mentioned, let’s try and take the APOY Club award (and cash) from Launceston CC who have won in the last two years.

You may recall in 2021, Mike Martin came fourth overall, and projected BPS to second place in the club ranking, behind the combined efforts of 11 photographers from Launceston. Competition in 2022 was stiffer but we still managed 6th place overall, following the efforts of Steve Field, Colin Dixon and Mike.

If more members participate, we should be well placed to do well. So, PLEASE join in.

About APOY
  • Comprised 10 rounds on different topics (Round 1 has closed)
  • Subscribers to the magazine receive one free entry per month
  • (expert tip:  if you use the free Libby App and register with your library on-line, you can read the magazine absolutely free AND pick up the Free Entry Code published in the magazine without paying a penny!!! – Round 2, Travel free entry code is on the attached)
  • if you want to boost your chances, you can buy blocks of additional entries, up to four per competition.
  • Winners in each round win MPB vouchers and receive points towards their individual ranking AND their Club Ranking (PROVIDED you have associated yourself with BPS during the initial registration process).
  • Entries are made on-line
Expert tip: Enter high resolution JPGs – the winning images are used to grace the pages of the magazine each month in the winners gallery. They assume that the submitted image is the highest resolution available, and since they need images that are good enough/large enough to print, there is a risk that photos that are judged less favourably.

More details can be found on the attached or on Photocrowd where the competition is hosted or ask Mike/Steve.
