scene from Wedding
Island
by Bogue Anthill, performed in the Community
Hall, May 2025

Following the success of Wedding
Island, performed on Scotland Island in May 2025,
a group of enthusiasts in community theatre are now
turning their minds to the next offshore play. Written
by Jasper Marlow, A Devine Mystery is
provisionally scheduled for performances in May 2026.
We plan to meet in the
island community hall, sometime in the coming weeks, to
discuss casting and a rehearsal schedule. If you are
interested in taking part, either on or off stage,
please let me know, with your phone number, and I'll add
you to the relevant WhatsApp group.

The October meeting of the international folk dancing
group attracted a good crowd, thanks to the skilful
tuition offered by islanders Annabelle and Branko
Kristevic. Annabelle and Branko have been dancing for
decades, and have even performed at the Sydney Opera
House.
The offshore group meets on the last Saturday of most
months at 7 pm, dancing for two hours with a short break.
Each session features traditional dances of different
levels of complexity, drawn from around the world (with a
particular emphasis on the Balkans). Branko and Annabelle
explain the steps for each dance and allow plenty of time
to practise, so every session is suitable for beginners.
The November dance will double as the group’s Christmas
party, when members typically bring simple finger food or
a bottle to share. Everyone is welcome to join us,
regardless of age or aptitude.
To help defray expenses, the Recreation Club asks for a $5
contribution per person per session. There will be no
session in December or January.
