Psalm 73:24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.

GUIDE ME TO GLORY

Sometimes when we go on long trips we say, "Half the fun is getting there." While it can be true that the travel itself might be an enjoyable part of a journey, it never seems quite as good as the actual arrival at the final destination. The wise men may have exchanged smiles and good conversation on their way to Bethlehem, enjoying their trip, but it was when they saw the Child that their joy was full.

With respect to our journey through life on the way to heaven, I'm not sure we would say, "Half the fun is getting there." I might say that less than 1% of the fun is getting there. This life is tough. It is scarred and marred by our own sinfulness and the fallen condition of the world in which we live.

We are thankful that we do not have to navigate this earthly path alone. Our dear Savior is with us, guiding us with His word like a star beaming brightly overhead, lighting our way to eternal glory. But our greatest joy will be when we finally reach our goal, when Christ takes us to Himself. Until then, Lord, keep us faithful to You.

Holy Jesus, every day
Keep us in the narrow way;
And, when earthly things are past,
Bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide,
Where no clouds Thy glory hide.
(The Lutheran Hymnal, 127:4)
