Hello Firstname
|
|
Next Wednesday we were due to be having a talk from Steve Le Prevost, unfortunately he has had to withdraw because of family illness. However, we are pleased to welcome (and thank) BPS member Mike Martin who is stepping in at very short notice to present his talk called Shooting People and Other Stuff
Mike will illustrate his journey into both creative and portrait photography. He will show how he finds subjects, learnt his craft and developed his skills plus probably a few other bits and pieces through some of his prints. In the second half he’ll show some before and after images demonstrating some of the techniques he uses and hopefully inspire a few people to give it a go.

Here are a few of Mike's images to whet your appetite.
Why not have a look at his website to see what really makes him tick.

All members are welcome to the next DI meeting on Monday 11 February when we will have presentations brought by you to show what you have been doing or ask for advice or help from others or just sit and watch. You may bring your images as prints or digital files (on a memory stick in jpg format, of any size, sRGB colour profile, and in a folder of your name please).
Lightroom Extra
A special evening of a technical presentation on Lightroom topics by Andrew Whettam was held last Tuesday and was well attended by many members. Andrew passed on a lot of very useful information mainly on the Develop module with practical demonstrations together with a couple of short videos. It all went very smoothly as the projector, PC and, dare I say, the members behaved very well. A few members requested copies of the links to the videos and if you click on the links below you should be able to download three web pages (without having to join Dropbox).
The three sets of links are:
- Andrew's Lightroom video links
- Tutorials - Adobe Lightroom
- Tutorials - Adobe Photoshop
Follow this link to download of a pdf containing all the tutorial links.
Look forward to seeing you next Monday.

Members are welcome to visit the judging to see some of the world's top images projected and whittled down to the best 25% or so that will make up the exhibition. If you would like to come along, could you please note the following daily times when we will be open to visitors: 10am - 12am, 2pm - 4pm. If you would like to see a particular section, these are being held on the following days:
- Open - Friday & Saturday morning
- Monochrome - Saturday afternoon & Sunday
- Nature - Saturday
- Photo Travel - Sunday
We look forward to seeing you there. |
BPS took part in the recent PAGB GB Cups for Nature and Open images, held on 19 January at Pontefract. The results were a little disappointing as we were =33rd overall out of 86 clubs in the Nature section and =36th in the Open section out of 68 clubs. The outstanding image for BPS was Boxing Hares by Mary Pears who scored 14 points, out of a possible 15.

I know some of you have already entered and wondering how to get your prints to the organisers.

Just a bit older than the two above, Leonardo Da Vinci has an exhibition at the City Museum & Art Gallery. To mark the 500th anniversary of his death, they are displaying twelve of his finest drawings as part of #Leonardo500 – a national celebration of one of history’s greatest geniuses. Full details here. |
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
