Wednesday 12 October

Next week our speaker will be Les Loosemore ARPS AWPF DPAGB from South Wales. Les is a Fotospeed Ambassador and will be showing a number of his print panels that have formed applications for Fellowship of the RPS, these include:
  • Abandoned Lime Works (Colour or Black & White).
  • In-Camera Creations (consisting of sky, trees, grasses, leaves and water).
  • Sydney Opera House & Harbour Bridge at Night.
  • Fragility of Decay (Colour or Black & White).
Les's profile at Fotospeed gives a potted history of his progression from football referee to successful photographer:
Discussing his photography, Les Loosemore ARPS, AWPF, DPAGB, says "Having been just a family snapper for many years, I decided to take a more serious approach to photography just after the new millennium. Having spent more than 30 years in a sporting environment, both playing and refereeing association football, coupled with a serious interest in competitive cycling, I decided to take up a more leisurely interest, hence my venture into photography."

Resulting from my obvious interest in sport, and football in particular, I decided to start my photographic journey in the sporting arena so to speak. My involvement in professional football allowed me to gain accreditation to matches played in the Football League. This was a very interesting and pleasing experience, progressing to a similar experience at professional rugby and cricket matches.

This early occurrence and exposure to my photography, all shot on negative film quickly challenged my expanding appetite to pursue other aspects of this fascinating pastime. Film turned to digital and sporting arenas turned to nature’s pastures and rich tapestry. The journey had started.

Photography offers a huge variety of subject matter, full of interest and challenge. It has become a passion, providing enrichment and satisfaction from something that is so accessible to us all. Just one simple rule to observe, “Enjoy your photography”.

DI Group - Monday 10 October 7.30 pm on Zoom
It is nearly time for the monthly DI meeting on Monday 10 October. This time I am very pleased to announce that our own club member Sue O’Connell, ARPS, DPAGB, BPE 5*, EFIAP/diamond 3, FIPF will be presenting her talk entitled: Traveller’s Tales - a look back over her photographic journey from happy snapper to avid “salonista”, judge and lecturer. It features some of the travel experiences which have played a key part in her development as a photographer, as well as important influences, both past and present.

Sue has been a member of BPS for a long time and many of you will know her as a very modest person who is dedicated to photography, which is evident from the many distinctions she holds, including Fellowship of Irish Photographic Federation.

She has also reached the top of the ladder in International Salons patronized by FIAP, attaining Diamond 3 level, only the second one in BPS. She is passionate about travel photography and was adventurous in travelling to far corners of the world before organised tours became common place and recorded some of the International heritage sites before they were destroyed by terrorism. She has won numerous awards, not only in Travel but also in Nature, Monochrome and Photojournalism. These awards have been gained in major competitions including Travel Photographer of the Year (four times!), National Geographic Traveller and USA Landscape Photographer of the Year.

Her work has appeared widely in the photographic press including Black & White Photography, Digital Camera and Amateur Photographer and also in exhibitions at the Royal Photographic Society, the Royal Geographical Society, and Photokina in Germany. The list goes on and you can see more on her website at www.sueoconnell.photography

Sue's talk will take the whole meeting, but there will be time at the end for questions, which will be an opportunity to learn more about her passion for photography. I am naturally excited to have her talk to DI group next Monday, an opportunity not to be missed.

If you have already collected some of your images for Monday, I am happy to have them now and keep them for the November DIG meeting.

 Regards.

 Ashwin
