Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 13 October

Next Wednesday, we see the return of real prints when we have Round 1 of the 2021/22 Print Competition which is being judged by Leigh Woolford, DPAGB, EFIAP, AWPF, HonFWPF. Leigh is the latest in a line of visitors that we have had from the Principality of Wales over the last few weeks, although I'm assured that this is not the advanced party prior to a full blown invasion by the Taffiban!

Leigh is no stranger to BPS and we can be assured of an evening that is both constructive and entertaining.

DI Group
DI Zoom Meeting – Monday 11 October

Everyone is welcome to the October meeting of the DI group which will be on Zoom, not in the club room. I know the hybrid meetings on Wednesday have already started, thanks to a lot of hard work by Matt, supported by his team. Having monitored them from both sides and pondering over the options for DI meetings I think it is best to continue with Zoom for the time being for two reasons. The DI meetings are informal and exchange of comments are an important part of it. The sound issues may need fine tuning for hybrid meetings to be effective for DI group so that everyone can participate. In any case it would be difficult for me to handle the technical side of hybrid on top of organising the meeting. The second reason is that a significant number of members who normally attend may still not feel safe at present to meet indoors despite the precautions. Apart from the informal chats in the coffee break with chocolate biscuits we will not miss much. I hope you will agree.

For the Monday’s meeting Barry has already sent some images to further reveal the mystery behind his creative images. Inspired by creative style Sue Swift is also hoping to present something she has been working on. So that leaves plenty of room for more presentations.

Please send your images to me by Sunday 10 October, 6 pm. Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict), prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish to show them in that order. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email.

I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Zoom - We Can Hear Your Every Word!
It cannot be emphasised enough that you should mute/switch off your microphone once the speaker has started his/her presentation. It has been noticeable several times over the last few weeks that not everyone is doing this and it should be born in mind that anything you say when unmuted can be heard by all, especially when it comes out over the sound system in the clubrooms. The other aspect of this is that it can (and has) put the speaker off their stroke, with our last speaker stopping quite abruptly at one point to ask what on earth that was!

I'm sure that you all know how to do this, but just in case:

Locate the “Mute” button (which looks like a microphone) on the toolbar. On a Mac, PC, web client, or smartphone, the toolbar stretches across the bottom of the screen or window. On a tablet, the toolbar appears at the top of the screen. Click or tap on the “Mute” button.

The Mute icon will change into a crossed-out microphone and the text will now say “Unmute.” Your microphone is now turned off and no one at the meeting can hear you.

To turn your microphone back on, click or tap the “Unmute” button on the toolbar.

After clicking “Unmute,” your microphone will be active again and everyone at the meeting will be able to hear you.

Last Week's Speaker
Our speaker last Wednesday, Ed Cloutman, showed us his list of things to do, which he reckoned we should use when producing images, to help make sure that we are producing something that will please the judges (as well as ourselves). This was in the form of "tick list" which he promised to let us have for general distribution among members. True to his word, he has now sent the document across the Severn Estuary and you can download it by following this LINK.
