"I took the shell off my racing snail, thinking it would make him run faster. If anything, it made him more sluggish."

- Phil Proctor

THE RANGER REPORT - February 5, 2019 The Official Newsletter of The Mighty Manatees Medicine Show "Celebrating 33 Years Of Not Getting Sued Or Shot"

BOB MARLEY'S BIRTHDAY! - Yes, it's that time of the year again. Bob Marley's birth date is February 6. In the past few years we have held a Marley tribute show at the Rising Sun Barn. Because the date was just a few days after our recent Sellersville Theater show, we have moved the Marley birthday tribute to Thursday, Feb. 7, inside at the Rising Sun Inn. Showtime is 9:00 - 12:30. No cover charge. Special guests. Come on out for some positive vibrations and an evening of Bob Marley's words and music.

RETURN TO HOTEL FIESOLE! - On Friday, Feb. 15, The Mighty Manatees sextet will return to Hotel Fiesole in Skippack, PA, for the first time since our zany New Year's Eve show there at the end of 2018. We will be celebrating the birthdays of Mighty Manatees family members Scott Weaber and Jeff Asher. Showtime is 8:00 - 12:00 PM. http://www.hotelfiesole.net Special guests!

ROGER GOFF'S BIRTHDAY! - Long time Manatee friend and supporter Roger Goff is having a birthday party at The Bridgeport Ribhouse on Monday evening, February 18. Some of The Mighty Manatees will be playing as well as many other local musicians for he's a jolly good fellow. Jolly Roger is the fellow who live streams a lot of our shows on Facebook. If you become friends with Roger you can see his work for yourself. He will accept your friend request. Come on out for this rare Monday night party. We'll sing our heads goff, while you dance your feet goff.

KARL "K-JO" FRICK'S BIRTHDAY! - Karl's birthday is Saturday, February 23. We don't have a gig that night but Randy Wagner and I will be playing Faracos in Quakertown, PA, the night before on Friday, Feb. 22, and Karl just might show up for some fun! Showtime is 7:00 - 10:00 PM.

ENVIRONMENTAL TIPS - Most of us have containers for our garbage and recycling, but it's a good idea to have a compost container, too. It should be air tight to avoid odors. It's for your discarded fruits, vegetables, breads, pasta, and all the other foods that decompose at a different rate and should not be mixed with other trash. But do not use any meats or dairy products. Find a spot in your yard for a compost heap and you can use the results for your garden in the spring. Help the earth to help you.

VIDEO CLIP OF THE MONTH - This month's clip is from September, 2005. It features my sister Susan. She and I sang together when we were little kids, and later professionally in a bluegrass band. Sue and my mom had flown down from Canada for my birthday and we got Sue up to sing with us at the annual Asher's Fall Fest in Franconia, PA. It was her first time singing in America. On January 24, she would've turned 60 years old. She was the best sister anyone could ever ask for. Happy Birthday, Sue. Bud Burroughs on mandolin, Randy Wagner on bass, and Tim Campbell on drums. Special thanks to Uncle Runkle.
