One Council Announced

12 May 2016

The NSW Government announced that Manly, Warringah and Pittwater councils

will merge to form a new Northern Beaches Council which will take effect from

 12.30pm today, 12 May 2016.

The new council will be headed up by Administrator Dick Persson and Interim General Manager Mark Ferguson.

Outgoing Mayor Jacqueline Townsend said while our Council comes to an end, I know our staff will take with them the values and retain what is intrinsic to Pittwater. I am sure that our staff will continue to work hard for our community.

“It has been a wonderful opportunity, privilege and honour to be a servant to Pittwater as a Councillor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor over the past eight years. I encourage our community to remain strong and proud of the achievements we have made together over the past 24 years and ask everyone to continue that momentum and connection with the new council.

“This decision creates a new council that we trust will be an organisation of transformation and innovation. The work this Council has done over the last four years demonstrates that we are a modern and progressive organisation and there is no doubt that our staff who form part of the new council will continue the Pittwater culture.

“Responsible governance and connection to our community have been hallmarks of our Council and I am proud of what we have achieved. We have been a leader in local government in the policy, sustainability and service delivery areas, and for that we thank our community and staff for their passion and support over the past 24 years,” Mayor Townsend said.

Mayor Townsend and the other eight Councillors have been dismissed but operations remain business as usual and services will continue to be delivered.
