Psalm 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.

WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT?

I want Spring to come now. I want to be rid of this cold yesterday. I want my problem solved immediately.

Why does the Lord's help sometimes seem so long in coming? Why does He make us wait? He has His reasons.

Maybe He wants to teach us to be grateful. He blesses us in countless ways each and everyday. When we're forced to be persistent in prayer, it helps us remember not to take His love and goodness for granted.

Maybe He makes us wait in order to strengthen our faith. Waiting for a problem to be solved forces us back into the Word. In the Word the Lord promises to never leave us or forsake us. He promises that all things will work for our good. He promises that eternal life in Heaven is the ultimate answer to our cries for help. These promises of God strengthen our faith in Him as we wait for an answer to our prayers. In fact, His answer might be to let the problem remain, while simply giving us the strength to persevere through it.

Or it could be that He wants us to re-examine what we want Him to do for us. Maybe what we want wouldn't be good for our faith. Perhaps the Lord has another solution to our problem, something we would never have thought of, something that will both solve our problem and benefit our faith in Him as our Savior.

Or perhaps the time just isn't right. Maybe our Father intends to give us what we ask for, but He knows that it's best for us to wait for it a little while longer.

Finally, lets remember that we never have to wait when it comes to the forgiveness of our sins. Peace with God through the shed blood of Jesus is something we have right now and always.

Lord, give me patience to wait for Your perfect timing, as well as Your perfect answers. Amen.
