Issue #124 ---November 2015 |
So... here we are, fresh from the Fall International Quilt Market & Festival, where the theme for the two weeks we were there SEEMED to be "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head"! Seriously, 35 inches of rain in two weeks is incredible but accurate & amazing!
But you know what? The shows were surprisingly successful in spite of the weather, but we still have a LOT of catching up to do, so I'll get back to it, while you enjoy this month's edition of Kat Bytes!

This Wrapsody was the first handbag ever made by Amy Love. I love the colors she chose, especially the pop of green, seen here on the interior. Amy said it's comfy to carry and holds LOTS of items! Here's a peek at the zippered pocket on the bag back.

This impressive floral Quattro was created by Jackie Abel of Watertown, SD when she was asked to make a
bag for a charity silent auction by a local quilt shop. Jackie said she
let the shop owner choose the pattern and together they chose the fabrics
and I love the choices they made!

This Wrapsody was created by Patty Shirk of Lawrence, KS. I love that Patti created her own exterior fabric by using " Wrap-it-UP" piecing technique. And the colors and print that Patti chose were brave and edgy, especially the multi-colored zips! Great Job Patti!

This HipBag Hybrid was created by Cyndi Page of Chanute, KS. She tells me that this particular bag is for her sister and that they have a trip in their future!
And this Quattro that was created by Frances Gill of Jacksonville, TX and it surely is a vision in blue (although Frances tells me that the fabric color is actually violet). Here's a peek at the zippered main compartment area!

And if we could have a drumroll please, here we have the very first Triple Play bag (our new design for FALL '15) to grace our competition and it's clean, crisp and lovely! The creator was Carol Laske of Milford, MI who let us know that she used synthetic leather for the lower accented areas and found that it was relatively problem-free.
And how about this entry from Sue Kettley of Newcastle, WY? She calls this Guardian her "Wyoming Cowboy" bag. Good name, don't cha think? Here's a peek at the zip-down credit card section!

And here's a gorgeous Quattro! We were so happy to see it posted on our FaceBook page by Hilde Johansen. And here's a peek at the back!

Techie Tutorial of the Month-
I have to confess I have a "font fetish". I cannot even begin to tell you how many fun fonts I have loaded on my laptop. I convinve myself its necessary to have lots of them in order to make interesting ads, flyers, posters and the link.... but mostly, I just love fonts, especially the ones that look like handwriting!
And if you've ever had a hankering to change the font for one of your projects, here's a really good tutorial that will walk you through the process of installing a new font on YOUR computer!

The Detroit Free Press put the call out in March. They wanted metro Detroit high
school students to make a prom dress or accessory out of newspaper for a
chance to win $500. Teens from around the Detroit area spent the following weeks gluing,
stapling and taping our pages into fashion. They crossed their fingers, and
hoped talent would shine. And what happened was pure.... MAGIC!

If you’ve looked around the your favorite department store in the past
couple seasons and felt like everything there, from itty bitty micro
bags to toy-like bag charms, was designed for kids, there’s a good
reason for it: luxury brands are looking to younger consumers with lower
incomes to bolster sales. { Click HERE to read more}

Today is Wednesday, the 11th day of November. It's the 315th day of 2015 and there's only 50 days remaining in this year... (even less than that until Christmas, but let's not go there!) This day is also recognized as Veteran's Day in the US, Remembrance Day in Canada, and Armistice Day in much of Europe... meaning that many, many of us are enjoying a day away from work and school, but it's also a day to turn our thoughts to those who served in the military whether in combat or not, one of which is my Dad, a veteran of the US Air Force. And coiincidently, my Dad is also celebrating his 83rd birthday today, and if today is also YOUR birthday, here's a great, big "Happy Birthday to YOU" from all of us here at StudioKat Designs. |
Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember! It's a GREAT day to be sewing!
We hope you found this newsletter to be informative. It's our way of keeping you posted on the happenings here. If, however, you'd prefer not to no longer receive these updates, please see the links below to manage your preferences. Thanks for your support and best regards!
