Snow in Austin? That's in the forecast for today, with a freeze
warning from 6 p.m. this evening lasting into Saturday morning.  A few
hints for readers from Chris Winslow
on how to keep your garden alive
and well:
1. Keep everything well watered.
2.  Put a thick layer of mulch at the base of plants to keep the roots warm.
3. Bring in all house plants and frost-tender tropicals.
4. Cover all citrus plants (or ones that are marginally hardy) with a sheet.
5.  Feed the birds!

After the freeze a lot of perennials, such as lantana and salvias, will be
damaged and will appear burned. Mulch them with compost and cut
back to a few inches above  the ground.

New plant species found in Austin:  The 64-year-old amateur naturalist
Robert Corbin has discovered a new plant species on
one of the islands
by the Montopolis Bridge, reports the Austin
American Statesman.
Corbin, who owns Nomadic Notions, describes
it as '4 feet tall with small,
green pea-like nodules hanging from it.' Click here -  new plant - to read

Should Gardeners Pee Outside?  Thanks to Valerie Morris
(BattyForBegonias) for sharing her opinion. "Absolutely," she writes.
"It is appropriate and as nature intended."  Any other opinions?
