Psalm 119:105, 140, 160 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Your word is very pure; Therefore Your servant loves it. The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.
"WHAT IS TRUTH?"
We don't know exactly how Pontius Pilate asked this question, but it is clear that the Governor of Judea wasn't really looking for an answer.
What is truth? The world around us says that "Truth is relative." The Scriptures tell us that the Word of God is the one safe, reliable guide in our sin-darkened world -- true in all its parts.
There are so many questions in life, aren't there? Where can I find the God-pleasing answers? How am I to treat my parents and superiors when I don't agree with them? What should I do when my anger is aroused at someone? What if I am tempted to look upon a woman (or man) in a sinful way? Shall I do my best at work, even when others don't?
The world around us answers all such questions simply: "Do what YOU think is right. There really are no rights or wrongs." They say the Bible is a "crutch for weak-minded people who can't think for themselves." The Psalmist declares: "Your Word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path."
Praise God that He has given us His Word, 100% pure, and always right. God's Word has been shown reliable and sure, especially when His people have clung to it under life-trying circumstances. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego clung to God's Word, and even though cast in a fiery furnace, were delivered unscathed. Daniel was delivered from the lion's den. Countless other believers are daily delivered from this sinful world to the
riches of heaven because they trust in God's sure Word, especially the message of Christ crucified for sinners.
The Bible is God's WORD and true in all its parts. The Psalmist says that when all the component parts of the WORD, all the books, all the words are gathered together -- it equals truth, absolute truth.
God help us always to approach the Word with the deepest respect, remembering what the LORD says in Isaiah (66:2): "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word."
