Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
GOD-BREATHED
We've probably all tinkered around with Play-Doh at some point. I can make a pretty mean snake, and a coil basket too. With enough time I could probably fashion a decent looking little man also. But what I can't do is breathe life into that little clay figure. How interesting that would be -- to be able to make your own friends.
That's what God did in the beginning. The rest of the creation came about just by God saying the word and watching the various parts of the universe take shape. But man was different. God fashioned him by hand, and breathed right into his nostrils the breath of life.
Whether he's speaking things into being, or breathing life into clay, God's mouth is powerful beyond our experience. With Genesis in mind, consider the following passage:
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16).
Because the Bible came from God's own mouth, it is powerful. When people read about how Jesus suffered and died to save us from our sins, God breathes life into our sin-deadened souls. God's Word about his Son Jesus has the power to make people trust in Jesus as their Savior.
