Wednesday 23 August

Next Wednesday we have a return to Unit13 by Ashley Franklin, although this time in voice only, when he will be providing the commentary for the NEMPF Travelling Exhibition. This recorded presentation is one of the best and most professionally put together recorded shows that we get the opportunity to see. It is a presentation of accepted images in this annual exhibition, with images being submitted by the member clubs within the North & East Midland Photographic Federation and is put together by Jim Hartje with commentary by Ashley Franklin. Ashley's commentaries are usually very informative and always amusing

Advanced Warning - Projected Image Competition Closing Date
CORRECTION - Thanks to Barry Mead for pointing out that I gave the wrong division for the first competition. It is in fact R1 of the Projected Image Competition and not Prints as stated previously.

The closing date for the first round of the new competition season is almost upon us - Wednesday 6 September is the closing date for Round 1 of the Projected Image Competition, which is being judged by Alan Denison BPE 3*, DPAGB from Frome. The prescribed topic for this round in Close up/Macro. Full details of the competition rules can be found in the Members' Area of the BPS website.

Message from Paul MacLeod

A message to all the beginners, or anyone who wants to get advice and constructive feedback on their photos; learning from more experienced photographers.

But also a message to those more experienced photographers: there's no better way to grow than to share your expertise.

When I started taking my photography more seriously, during the second lockdown, I was looking for a way to get feedback and advice on my photos. That's why I joined the BPS and it's really delivered with the DIG evenings, held on a Monday evening every month. (Currently just over Zoom, but coming soon as a hybrid: Zoom & Unit 13.)

It's an opportunity to share your photos and get constructive criticism and advice (if you want it). Join us, if you want:
  • Feedback on whether they're any good;
  • Help in deciding which ones to enter into competition;
  • Advice on how to improve them, including special techniques (I heard about Frequency Separation and Detail Extraction, from this group);
  • Or, if you just want to show off your photos, in a friendly, sociable group.
I would never have advanced as much as I have, in the last two years, without these awesome, kind and supportive people.

Thanks Ashwin, for organising. And thanks to everyone for contributing.

Paul MacLeod.
