Hello Firstname

Wednesday 13 May
Next week we are being treated to an evening by two of our own members, Gordon Bunney LRPS CPAGB BPE1* and Bob Micklethwaite - This is an evening that promises to have something for everyone. The presentation will for the most part prints but Bob will wind up the first half with three short AVs. The second half will be all prints; they will show these alternately in panels of five. The subjects will be wide ranging and as well as digital prints there will be darkroom prints in both colour and black & white.

DI Group - Monday 11 May
Next Monday is the monthly meeting of the DI Group. Ashwin has popped across to India to see the family, but he has left us in the capable hands of John Hudson aided and abetted by Mike Bigger, so please come along with your pictures to show off or to get advice on, these can be either prints or projected (jpegs on USB memory sticks only please)

Annual Print Competition
Next Wednesday is the closing date for the Annual Print Competition, the judge will be Margaret Salisbury FRPS EFIAP FIPF APAGB. If you have prints displayed on the wall at present, but wish to enter them in the Annual, you are asked to leave them there and just let Margaret know what you have done, she will take them down in time to get them to the judge. If you have any queries, please contact Margaret Collis collismuriel@talktalk.net.

The rules are as below:

The competition consists of the following classes:
  • Beginners
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced
  • Natural History – open to all
The Annual is a single competition for prints and members may submit a maximum of: Advanced - 7 prints, Intermediate 5 prints and Beginners 4 prints. Any category mix can make up the total. Entries should be numbered starting at 1; if the total entry exceeds 180, the highest numbered prints will be removed, (e.g. No 7 for advanced, No 5 for intermediate and No 4 for beginners) until the total reaches 180. Anyone wishing to enter the Natural History section must nominate the print he/she would like to be considered for these awards. In addition to the usual awards, the judge will be asked to select the best travel, people, action, landscape, creative and monochrome prints from the whole entry (i.e. all classes). A cup will be awarded to the best image in the competition; certificates will be awarded to the other winners. An image entered in this competition may not be entered in the Annual Projected Image competition in the same year.

NEW PREMISES

Progress
What a difference a week makes: the new ceilings are now in, walls all plastered and painted, picture display system installed, the electrician is now well on the way with installing the lighting and the decorators have started on the outside. This weekend the flooring people start and the AV specialists will be installing the wiring for the PC and projector and other AV goodies.

Here is another Mike Bigger masterpiece, this time showing the Meeting Room looking towards the new platform (under construction). You can clearly see the triple rail print display on the front wall and the twin rail on the side wall. These rails have been installed all around the meeting room and tea/coffee area, so there will be no excuse for not letting the world see your pictures!

The Big Move
The big move of equipment and seating from 12 West Mall to the new premises will begin in earnest on Thursday 21 May. We are going to need a willing band of helpers, both at 12 West Mall and at Montpelier, so mark it in your diary if you will be available to help and drop me a line to let me know. Whilst a lot of the kit can be transported by car, we are going to need to hire a van to carry the larger stuff and the chairs; but before I go out and spend yet more of the Society's money, is there anyone out there who has (or has access to) a van that we could use, probably Ford Transit sized and complete with driver. If so, could you please let me know as soon as possible, obviously we will pay any fuel costs.

Sunday 24 May
Don't forget the grand opening at Unit 13 on the 24th (see last week's newsletter), please let Carol know as soon as possible if you are likely to be coming along (with or without your better half) so that she can plan what food & drink to order. Please RSVP to Carol, either by email, membership@bristolphoto.org.uk or by phone: landline - 0117 9241338 or mobile - 07702 938710 (phone or text) by 16 May.

Well done to Richard Harris who has just entered his first major exhibition (outside Bristol) and has gained 5 acceptances in the Neath & District Photographic Society UK Salon - today Neath, tomorrow the world! Richard's is obviously a name to watch for the future.
