SOCIETY HONOURS
We are pleased to announce that our treasurer Vicki Montgomery was made a Fellow of the Society for her sterling work in many areas of the Society’s activities.
Jenny Carter and Ann-Maree Richardson were awarded Medals of Meritorious Service for their outstanding services to the Society.
The following members were awarded Certificates for their major contributions to the Society: David Down, Dennis Jasper, Peter Johnston, Evelyn Swenson, Graham Swenson and Dawn Watkinson.
Those who were in attendance at the Annual General Meeting were presented with their certificates & medals, to the acclaim of all present.

Library and Archives Canada
is pleased to announce the release of a new version of the online database Home Children (1869-1930).More than 20,000 names of children, who came to Canada between 1925 and 1932, were added to the extended version. The names were extracted from passengers lists held at Library and Archives Canada.
 
 FIND
 
At FIND we’ve created a new website which we think will be of interest to people researching their family histories.
www.findfreemaps.co.uk offers totally free access to a range of constantly updated maps from reputable sources such as the Ordnance Survey and Google.  The site offers a free toolkit which allows users to draw on the maps and to insert text and graphics.  It also allows them to instantly measure, style, colour and print finished maps or save them as PDFs.
 
Gold Coast Family History Society in Queensland
has launched a new Members’ Interest List that can be accessed by any researcher, worldwide. The list can be found on our website at www.goldcoastfhs.org.au . All enquiries are secure and are passed on to the relevant member via the facilitators.

Famine Rock and the Irish Famine Orphan Girls' Commemoration Day.
Burgoyne Reserve, The Strand, corner Stevedore Street, Williamstown. 2.30 pm, Sunday 20th November 2011.
Every year since 1998 we have payed tribute to the 1700 Irish Famine Orphan Girls who arrived via Lady Kennaway, Pemberton, New Liverpool, Diadem, Derwent and Eliza Caroline into Hobsons Bay from 1848 - 1850.We are grateful for Hobsons Bay City Council's commitment to our vital and living history.
 
The Echuca-Moama Family History Group
is seeking entries for the 4th book in our series under the above title. The requirement for entries are set out below.

Entries are invited from families who lived in the following localities: In Victoria:  Ballendella, Bamawm, Barmah, Echuca, Echuca Village, Kanyapella, Kotta, Koyuga, Lockington, McEvoys, Millewa, Nanneella, Patho, Piavella, Pine Grove, Restdown, Rochester, Roslynmead, Strathallan, Tennyson, Tongala, Torrumbarry, Wyuna, Yambuna and In NSW: Bunnaloo, Caldwell, Mathoura, Moama, Thyra and Womboota.

Entries will be accepted in the order they are received.

Only one entry will be accepted for a related family of the- same surname.  Entries must contain a majority of "local" relevance.

We request original entries of 1000 words or less, and the entry must not have appeared in any other history publication of the area.

At least one photograph will be allowed for each entry.  Please supply black and white photographs if possible.  All care, but no responsibility will be taken with the photographs.  Please enclose a suitably sized stamped self addressed envelope for the return of photographs.

The committee reserves the right to edit or reject any contribution, which does not comply with the above criteria.
