Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 18 August

Next week, 1 August, we are being treated to the annual display of the NEMPF Travelling Exhibition. This recorded presentation is one of the best and most professionally put together shows that we get the oportunity to see. It is a presentation of accepted images in this annual exhibition, with images being submitted by the member clubs within the North & East Midland Photographic Federation and is put together by Jim Hartje with commentary by Ashley Franklin. Ashley's commentaries are usually very informative and always amusing.
The exhibition has broken many records this year with some 3449 images being submitted by photographers from 42 different clubs - this is a bit like the Salon show, but with words as well as music - an evening not to be missed!

Competition News - Including Rule Changes
Competition Time Is here Again!
The new season of BPS bi-monthly competitions is about to begin. The closing date for your entries to PDI Round 1 is Wednesday, 1 September.

Please note that there have been some rule changes, most significantly to the number of permitted entries and to the Prescribed topic element.

The maximum number of images submitted by Intermediate and Advanced entrants will be two, while entry to the Prescribed challenge will be optional and open to all.
  1. Club entrants may submit three images. One of these images may be for the optional Prescribed topic. Points gained for the Prescribed topic will accrue to the entrant’s Club score.
  2. Intermediate entrants may submit two images, one of which may be for the optional Prescribed topic. Points gained for the Prescribed topic will accrue to the entrant’s Intermediate score.
  3. Advanced entrants may submit two images, one of which may be for the optional Prescribed topic. Points gained for the Prescribed topic will accrue to the entrant’s Advanced score.
A separate tally of Prescribed scores will be kept, with awards for the Print and PDI winners at the end of the season.

There will be no printed Handbook this year, so please consult the BPS Website for full details of the rules and instructions how to submit your digital entries.

The Prescribed topic for PDI Round 1 is RED.

It's Circus Time!
John Hudson has recently visited the Circus Extreme at Elm Park, Filton and can thoroughly recommend a visit, althogh you only have until 15 August to go. Below are a few shots taken by John, who says of his vist:

"Extreme Circus at Filton on til Sunday - great photo ops, show girls, boudoir clad women, half naked males - but the stunts are great for photography!! Flying motorcycles, fire-eating, trapeze, low wire and wall of death! To name but a few."

RPS News
I have received the following from club member, Suzanne Johnson, who is Regional Organiser for the RPS Western Region:

You are requested to “Capture a moment for Cobalt”

Medical imaging charity Cobalt work in partnership with the NHS to conduct over 100,000 scans each year. Like most charities they have suffered with a drop in fundraising during the pandemic, so the Western Region of The Royal Photographic Society have helped them to organise a national photography competition specifically to finance the cost of a dedicated cancer nurse to support young adults with cancer in their own homes.

With the generosity of sponsors there are fantastic prize packages (Camera, books, membership +++) to be won by the twelve photographers whose images will be selected for a 2022 calendar, and will receive a framed print of their images. There is a further prize specifically for entrants under 16 years of age.

There are three themed categories:

•        Nature in all its forms
•        Happiness is…
•        Caring and Sharing

A donation of £2 per image is required and everybody can enter as many images and categories as they wish.

Full details, prizes, terms & conditions and links to upload images can be found by following this link: Capture a moment for Cobalt | Cobalt Healthcare Cheltenham & Gloucestershire

The competition closes at midnight on 31 August. Prizes will be awarded by the judging panel before the end of September.

Please consider helping with this very worthy cause.  Best of luck with your entry and thank you in advance for your support.

Suzanne Allen,
Regional Organiser,
Western Region, RPS

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
