On 8 March 2017, women in 46 countries will take time off from waged and unwaged work – for the whole day, or for hours or minutes – to protest against violence, poverty, discrimination, exploitation, war, the destruction of the environment . . . and for a caring society.

In London join us on Wednesday 8 March

9.45-11am

PROTEST: VALUE the WORLD’S MOTHERS & CHILDREN

Central Family Court, First Ave House, 42-49 High Holborn,

London WC1V 6NP

80% of UK women are mothers. Women are primary carers in 90% of households. Stop the unjust separation of children from their mothers, and the rise in children taken into care, forced to have contact / live with violent fathers, or adopted against their mother’s wishes.

12-2pm

SPEAKOUT outside PARLIAMENT

Old Palace Yard (opposite House of Lords)

We can all say why we’re striking and what changes we want.

The All African Women’s Group will perform their short play about the sexism and racism of the immigration system – from Yarl’s Wood Detention and Removal Centre to the courts.

Bring a broom to sweep out the theft of our time and our money.
Anti-austerity MPs, especially women, are invited to support.

3-4pm

VIGIL for FARMING COMMUNITIES in THAILAND

St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 4JJ

Honouring the Southern Peasant Federation of Thailand and others risking their lives to defend land and water from corporate land grabs.

6pm

MAKE a BIG NOISE with women in other countries taking part. Bang pots and pans, drum, whistle . . . wherever you are.

This call follows mass protest in 2016 against the criminalisation of abortion in Poland and men’s violence in Argentina, and the women’s marches against Trump which mobilised millions. The Women’s March UK & US have endorsed the IWD call.
