We're excited to share this "Idea of the Week", submitted by either the MAiZE staff or one of your fellow siteowners. There never seems to be a shortage of ideas and the truth is that some of the best originate with all of you! So, if you ever have an idea you'd like us to pass along to the group, please just send it our way. Also, please remember that we'll be archiving these ideas on the siteowner web site, so that you can go back and view them whenever you like.
The Forbidden...
This week’s idea comes from the Gaines family in Guilford, Vermont. If you haven't looked at your attractions this way before, it points out a great appeal many of us are offering to our youngest visitors!

One of the biggest reasons children love the experences offered during their visit is because they are allowed to  "do the forbidden."  While at the farm, they have several activities which allow them to do things whict are normally off limits.

We have a big plywood wall painted white with a bucket of crayons for them to draw, write, or just doodle any where they want.  They have fun "jumping on the hay jump", which they soon discover is in fact a big ol bed mattress covered with straw.  What child doesn't try to jump on the bed at home only to be told to stop?  Then there is the "corn cannon".  How many opportunities to actually "aim and fire" do most children have before they get to the Maize? Just plain getting lost is also against "the normal grain" of" everyday household rules.  Pawing through and filling their shirts full of shell corn in the corn box is also different than a normal every day activity.  Try filling your shirt (or pockets) with dirt or macoroni noodles and see what happens in an average household!

It seems the more simple, and the more unusual, the better they like it. We are going to try pumpkin bowling this year too. Sounds like a lot of fun.  Simple is great! If anyone has any other forbidden or just simple ideas, please send them to us.  Who doesn't like the forbidden?  Hope everyone's corn is growing good. Hello to all the MAiZE families out there!
