Wednesday 26 April

Next Wednesday our speaker, Andy Phillips, will be coming to us across the ether when he will be "Zooming" his talk both to the clubrooms and to those at home. Andy's talk is called Inner Landscapes.
The following is what Andy says of himself & his talk:
Hi all, I’m Andy Phillips and I live just North of Manchester in Chorley. I have been tasked with a brief description of myself and my work so try not to fall asleep.

I shoot a few genre’ vis Landscapes, Weddings, Infrared, monochrome, tabletop and close up, and besides all that I teach Adobe Photoshop post processing - blimey!!

The Inner Landscape - This is my version of Still Life but lit naturally only!

You have booked my Inner Landscape presentation and I keep things light hearted for easy listening. Pay heed, it's probably not what you expect!!

Below is a review from Cheam CC following Andy's talk to them:

Another fantastic talk last Wednesday at Cheam Camera Club by Andy Phillips, who presented his Talk "Inner Landscape". It was billed as a talk on indoor photography, but Andy also gave us an insight into his landscape work, and how to look for a photograph from a normal landscape. We then went indoors, and he showed us the techniques he used for his indoor photography, especially modifying natural light and using inexpensive modifiers. He also explained how these skills were transferrable across genres. His images were truly stunning. If that wasn't enough, we also covered textures and how to create them.A truly inspiring talk from an excellent, and entertaining speaker - he had a great sense of humour despite talking into the silence of a zoom audience - it's a shame we couldn't have him in person as it would have really been a laugh as well as being educational.

You can read more about Andy and see examples of his work by visiting his website at Andy Phillips Photography

This initial workshop will be aimed at prints only and for members thinking of an RPS distinction. Although aimed at RPS any advice will clearly be useful if you are thinking of submitting for a PAGB Distinction.

Future workshops will be scheduled and will vary in content, including advice on PAGB Distinctions and digital submissions.

If you are interested in this first workshop, please get in touch making sure that you include all three of the following:
Thanks
Ralph

John Long
We have received the following, which is self-explanatory:

Dear fellow photographer

We want to inform as many photographers as possible about the opportunity to purchase the Kingswood Photographic Society tribute book to our past President, John Long.  It is for this reason that we should be most grateful if you would forward our message to all your members.

John Long was a well-known and well-loved friend of many of us. Sadly, John passed away on 24th of January 2021 at the age of  89.  John was a member of Kingswood Photographic Society for nearly sixty-six years.

As a tribute to John members of Kingswood thought that a suitable way to achieve this was to produce a photobook. This will include suitable words, recalling John’s passion for photography, demonstrating his wish to share his knowledge and encouraging others on their photographic journey. The book will also include copies of  many of John’s photos taken between 1959 and 2020.

We have offered to create this tribute book for John and we have used extracts from memories of some of John’s friends to do this.

The reason for contacting you is to ask if you would like a copy of this book? The cost per unit will depend on the number of our bulk order but it will be no more than £25.

If you want a copy of the Kingswood tribute book to John, please contact Adrian & Vanessa Herring before Monday, 15th of May, using Vanessa’s e-address:

With all good wishes, Vanessa & Adrian

What is it?
It is in fact a concrete sea defence from near Blackpool but Andy has shot it wide angle then twisted it about and then changed it to mono.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
