Psalm 19:1 (NKJV) The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
GOD'S GLORY ON DISPLAY
As my wife and I were driving up the highway some time ago, we simply had to stop the car and stand in the light rain shower as two full rainbows stretched across the sky. The brilliant spectrum of colors shone bright and clear with each color being separated from the next by a clean, smooth line. The display kept our eyes tied to the sky until the rain had finished and we were able to enjoy the greatness of God's creation without also being drenched by the greatness of God's creation. Looking at two rainbows reminded us of the promise that God gave to Noah so many years ago. "'I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.' and God said 'This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth'" (Genesis 9:11-13 ESV).
The rainbow, although surely wondrous and awe-inspiring, is merely one of the many marvelous displays of God’s creation and power. Almost all county, state, and national parks are located in areas that show off our God's creation. The very rising and setting of the sun and moon attest to our God's great glory. Psalm 19:1 tells us the same thing. "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork" (NKJV). Even the seasons themselves are maintained by God (Genesis 8:22). God's hand is seen in the smallest of microorganisms to the largest of blue whales.
So with all of this beauty and complexity being so evident, why doesn't everyone believe in the Triune God? The answer to this question is found in 1 Corinthians 1:21, "For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe" (ESV). Unbelievers don't come to faith by intellectually grasping the meaning of the Bible. Unbelievers are brought to faith by the Holy Spirit working in their hearts through the means of grace.
As you go about your days, keep a look out for the evidence of God in creation, and keep looking in the Bible to read about the evidence of God's plan of salvation for sinners.
