Ad Sales for ACI Program Shell

Welcome to the 2017–18 season of ICC&CS, and to a new season of selling ads for
the ACI program shell. Choruses members from last year will remember that we
made over $10,000 through this important fund raising effort, with chorus members
of the three groups selling ads to over seventy businesses.

We need everyone’s help again this year, with a deadline of Friday, October 20 for
completing the process. You can download the forms you need from this newsletter
(“Advertiser’s Agreement,” “Introductory Letter for Advertisers,” and “Instructions
for Sale of ACI Ads”) but you can also pick them up at rehearsal, along with sample
program shells from last year. I’ll be on hand to sign you up for the businesses you
want to approach. You can also email me directly to let me know:
kkg1@cornell.edu.

The more people who participate in this process, the more money we make. And
there are some other carrots: if we boost the participation rate of ICC&CS, we may
win our director, Gerald Wolfe, the gift certificate to Hickey’s. In addition,
individuals who sell ads to the most businesses or who make the most money will
also receive gift certificates—nice ones!

Please do start thinking about businesses that would welcome a chance to show
their support of ACI choruses if asked. Remember: no business will buy an ad unless
it is asked to do so. Who can you ask?

Contact me if you have questions, or if you want to let me know by email what
business(es) you will approach.

Many thanks!

Fall Workshop

Sounds of Singing: Extending Choral Traditions
September 23, 2017
10:00 – 12:30, with registration and coffee at 9:30 and a midway break
Unitarian Annex, 208 E. Buffalo St.

$20 fee benefits all four projects of the Affiliated Choruses of Ithaca (formerly Ithaca Community Choruses)

We are the musical products of our backgrounds and experiences, which provide rich resources for our music-making.  Looking outside our own traditions can broaden these resources musically and culturally, even if we move outside our comfort zones.  In this workshop, let’s sing together, share some musical experiences, expand our palettes, and perhaps find insights in traditions new to us.  We’ll explore vocal techniques, ensemble practices, and a diverse repertoire of choral music.

Sean Linfors, Ph.D, is Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education Ithaca College where he directs the IC Chorus and Madrigal Ensemble. He is an educator, conductor, and clinician, and, prior to moving to New York, he worked with ensembles in Virginia and Florida. Very active in the American Choral Directors Association, Sean has conducted community, church, and university choral groups in traditional and contemporary music. He is one of the directors of the fledgling community Justice Choir Ithaca.
2018 Commencement Weekend: ICC&CS Bed & Breakfast

The Chorus has been hosting families of Cornell University’s graduating students for about 25 years. It’s a service that visiting families really appreciate, and it’s also a relatively painless way to raise funds for the Chorus.

Memorial Day weekend is always Cornell’s Commencement weekend. Cornell posts not-for-profit organizations that host families for B&B during Commencement weekend. Potential guests give us details of their needs – then we match them with a host family. The finances are handled by the ICC coordinator. Your cost of hosting (food, etc) is tax deductible.

I know – it’s difficult to commit to hosting this far away from Memorial Day! Do you have an available guest bedroom? One meets many delightful people who are thrilled to be staying in a home close to campus. The financial benefits to the Chorus are very much appreciated. Do contact me if you’d like more information about hosting.
