This picture is not, as some might think, Bob dressed in anti-Covid gear. He is in fact wearing his recently found WW2 flying helmet & goggles!

I have received the following note from Paula Wride, Bob's daughter:
Update on Bob Faris
As many of you are aware, Bob has been in Bristol Heart Institute for a while now and is receiving excellent care. He would like to thank everyone for the kind messages, calls and cards he's received from his many BPS friends, which cheer him up greatly. Bob had a Balloon Valve procedure on his heart on Wednesday which went well and scans are showing an improvement in his heart function, which is very good news. He is likely to remain in BHI for further observations, until the weekend at least. If anyone would like any further updates, please email Carol (membership@bristolphoto.org.uk), who will be able to forward messages to Paula.
Many thanks, Bob & Paula
(Hope to see you all next Wednesday!)

Be warned, an email purporting to come from Margaret Collis is doing the rounds. The email asks you to purchase a gift card for a friend of hers and that she will pay you later, it is signed Muriel. DON'T touch it with the proverbial barge pole. |

The Collodion Process: Online Conference |
The Collodion Process, an online conference hosted by the Royal Photographic Society in conjunction with The Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE Bristol will be held on the 1-2 Oct.
Head to this link for all the details!
The announcement in The Chemist (March, 1851) of Frederick Scott Archer’s wet-collodion process transformed how photography was practiced professionally and by amateur photographers for much of the nineteenth century. Photography’s reach broadened socially, grew artistically and extended geographically.
⠀
Move forward to the 2000s and the wet-collodion process is, again, impacting photographic practice. It has been embraced by photographers and students who are using it for creative and artistic reasons. This has been supported by a growing number of practical workshops allowing people to experience and learn about the process.⠀
The two-day conference features a range of papers from historians, practitioners and artists. Confirmed Keynote speakers are Mark Osterman (Photographic Process Historian at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY) and France Scully Osterman (artist-educator and lecturer at Scully & Osterman Studio).
