Luke 4:3-4a The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." Jesus answered ...

HE ALWAYS ANSWERED

It is not always easy to give an answer. In school, the student does not always have an answer when called upon. At work, when the supervisor asks the employee to solve a particular problem, he does not always get an answer right away. Sometimes at home when our children ask us a question, we have a hard time coming up with a good answer. Or perhaps we are trying to discover the answer to a difficult situation in our lives and it is eluding us. Answers are important, and there are moments when we do not give the right ones because of weakness, ignorance, or fear.

There are times when an answer must be given, and that answer must be the right one or the consequences will be terrible. One of those times is when Satan presses with his temptations. In those moments it is important to give an answer.

When the Lord was tempted for 40 days by the devil (Luke 4), it was for real. During the whole course of time in the desert, the devil kept the pressure on. Yet for each temptation, Jesus gave a response in which He rejected the encouragement to fall into sin.

Jesus' battle with temptation in the wilderness shows us that He was ready and able to fight for us -- to fight against our greatest enemy and prevail. When an answer needed to be given in the face of Satan's wicked scheming, Jesus always gave the right one!
