1 Samuel 28:7 Saul then said to his attendants, "Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her." "There is one in Endor," they said.
TAKE IT TO THE LORD
King Saul was in trouble. The Philistines had set up camp against Israel at Shunem and presented a very real threat. This, however, what not Saul's greatest problem. His greatest problem was that He had turned away from the LORD, despising His will and counsel.
Saul did call on the LORD for an answer to the Philistine problem, but God did not pay attention to his prayer because it was not a prayer offered by one of His believing children. Instead of repenting and looking to the LORD for forgiveness, Saul turned to the Witch of Endor, calling on her for an answer. The results turned out to be disastrous.
Whenever we turn to someone (or something) other than the LORD for help which only He can give, we are headed for disaster. Millions turn to the stars for advice about the future. Some turn to their "lucky charms" for support and comfort when they are in trouble. Calling on these things will not bring any aid.
Rather call upon the LORD, knowing that it is He who gives you that very invitation. He reminds you that His hand is the One that holds you -- a hand that has blessed you beyond measure in Christ Jesus. He says, "Call upon ME in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
