THE WHEEL WELCOMES ANNOUNCEMENT OF
€1 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR SOCIAL ENTERPRISES
The Wheel, the national association of charities, community and voluntary organisations and social enterprises, has welcomed the announcement today (Monday, 9 December) by Minister Michael Ring of capital grants totalling €1 million for 124 social enterprise projects.
Ivan Cooper, Director of Public Policy with The Wheel, which represents 1,700 “This funding is vital to enable development of social enterprise initiatives countrywide and to further assist on of the aims the government’s policy for social enterprise, announced last July.”
This is the latest in a number of initiatives by the Minister and his Department to support social enterprise expansion.
Mr Cooper added, “The work of the social enterprise Implementation Group and this will assist an expanded and co-ordinated approach to a range of both cash and non-cash measures to assist work at both national and community level during 2020.
“Social enterprise has the potential to deliver thousands of new jobs at community level in every region of the country. It will specifically support social enterprise activity as a vital component community and voluntary sector in Ireland.
“It forms part of three policies being rolled out by , which also address volunteering and the overall community and voluntary sector, it represents unique opportunity for the overall sector to develop,” Ivan Cooper said.
