Job 33:12-14,16-18 Look, in this you are not righteous. I will answer you, For God is greater than man. Why do you contend with Him? For He does not give an accounting of any of His words. For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it . . . Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, And conceal pride from man, He keeps back his soul from the Pit, And his life from perishing by the sword.
YOUR WILL BE DONE
Discouragement and despair are common weapons of the devil. None of us are free from opportunities for the devil to use such weapons against us, as he tries to get us to question God's power or love for us.
Remember Job? He had lost everything he had. His friends had come to console and comfort him, but when despair finally took the upper hand and he cursed the day of his birth, his friends condemned him for hidden sins which must have brought on his suffering and loss. This drove Job to self-righteousness as he questioned God's love and justice. A fourth friend spoke to Job in these verses. Here he reminds Job that he is sinful and that God is great, and for that reason we can and should trust in His loving wisdom and will for us.
We are sinful as well. In this petition we are praying that we would be taught not to question the will of God and what He allows to take place in our lives. We are assured that our God is great, and we can trust in the loving wisdom and power of God in every part of our life, confident that no matter what we may face in life, our gracious Father knows and wants what is best for each of us. May His good will be done in us!
