January's Memory Verse
Psalm 119:1,
Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
who walk in the law of the LORD.”

- 3 Attitudes Toward The Bible -
Psalm 138:2, "...for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."
Job 23:12, "I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food."
The most precious possession we have is God's Word, the Bible. Yet many do not see the value of the Bible. The influence of the Bible on our society, our homes and even our churches is at an all time low.

The following are 3 attitudes a person may have toward the Bible. Two are bad and one is good.
  • An Uninterested Attitude: This view says, "The Bible cannot be understood, thus it is not relevant to us today."
This approach fails to see that the Bible must be read and studied to be understood. Many simply are uninterested in anything God has to say and thus, make no effort to understand what God has to say. The tragedy of this approach is that they fail to see that God is in control of this world's affairs, that God has a plan for each individual life, that God can and does offer stability to life when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and live a life of faith.
  • An Over-confident Attitude: This view says, "I already know what the Bible says." This produces false conclusions about God, life, and what He requires of His people. Some of the most unscriptural ideas about God and life come from folks who THINK they know what the Bible teaches.
  • A Submissive Attitude: This view says, "The Bible is the Word of God, it can and must be understood, it has the answers to life and is very practical in it's application." When we come to God's Word with humility and faith, taking God at His word and determining by His grace and by the power of the Holy Spirit to follow His instructions and by faith, keep His commandments, we'll find peace in our hearts, we'll see our faith grow and we'll experience spiritual prosperity.
We are urging all believers to determine to spend time each day reading and meditating in God's Word, the Bible. For new believers, the Gospel of John or Mark is a good starting place. For others, reading the entire Bible throughout the year is important. I encourage Christians to consider reading a chapter from Proverbs each day throughout the month.

There are many helpful Bible reading schedules available. Whatever schedule you use, be sure to approach God's Word with a humble, submissive attitude. Trust God and take Him at His word. God will bless you for this.

The following is our schedule for the next few weeks of January...
  • Jan. 4 - Scripture Memory Challenge for 2015 kick off (memorizing Psalm 119)
  • Jan. 11 - King’s Kids “Everyone’s” Birthday
  • Jan. 11 - Teen Parent Meeting (after evening service)
  • Jan. 17 - Great Commission Day
  • Jan. 17 - Couples Banquet at Penn Alps (call church for information)

We praise the Lord for His blessings over the Christmas and New Year holidays. The children gave an excellent Christmas program to a packed church house with a number of professions of faith.

This Sunday morning I'll be preaching on "The Light of the World" and the evening message from James is "The Law of Liberty." We continue our study on "Life in Eternity" in the adult Sunday School class.
