UPDATING YOUR SIRA DIRECTORY DETAILS
A fresh year, the best time to refresh your business or
club profile.
SIRA has
an online community directory as part of its
website. This directory includes a huge variety of contacts, including
from local and island accommodating businesses, your SIRA committee
members, emergency contacts, clubs, artists, classes, government
representatives and even JP's.
You can
use the online directory to search for a specific person/organisation
or type of service, or you can browse various categories.
The new
SIRA secretary is keen to use the new year as an opportunity to refresh
these contacts. If you would like to update your details, or add an
entry to the directory, please get in touch with Alec, the SIRA
Secretary on secretary@sira.org.au
Clean Up Oz Day 2017
Clean Up Australia Day is
here again – Sunday, March 5, 2017
Scotland Island is
registered to participate once again!
This event encourages and inspires thousands of Australians to take to
their local park, beach, bushland and streets and really help make a
difference to their local environment
If you would like to help out, either by grabbing a bag and filling it,
or helping to supervise activities, please email cassgye@spin.net.au
to put your name on the list.
Come down to your nearest Wharf to collect a bag between the hours of 9am and 12.00pm.
Bring gloves, sunscreen, hat, sensible clothes and footwear – and don’t
forget to bring some water too!
Toby and his crew will be out on the Laurel Mae to collect material.
Here is a link to the Clean Up Australia website: About the event - Clean Up Australia Day

JOIN
THE SINGERS!
Calling those who sing in
the shower…..
JOIN THE SCOTLAND ISLAND
SINGERS: our own Community acapella choir.
You might have seen us at the comedy night singing our Carpark Song. We
are a small group of people who enjoy singing together. Our leader is
Jessica McGowan who has years of musical experience, loves singing, and
brings enthusiasm and fun to the group.
What do we sing? One silly song about a carpark! Plus some easy songs
like rounds, call and response, and more challenging 3-part harmonies.
Our material crosses several genres from world music, gospel, folk,
classical… the main criteria is that the songs are enjoyable to sing.
Acapella mostly (ie. Unaccompanied). It’s about the joy that comes from
blending our voices…. And it’s about having fun.
A choir needs some ‘great’ singers, yes. But it also needs some people
who aren’t going to feature or do big impressive solos – it needs some
singers to stay in the background and just add bulk to the sound. You
don’t have to have a big powerful voice, as long as you’re (mostly) in
tune! Next meeting is the 5th of
March from 2.15pm-4.30 pm. Following that, March 12th. We meet at a
house on the top of the island. A lift can be arranged if needed.
We always have a break for tea and cake.
Cost- only $10 a week.
For more details, or to get on the mailing list, or join our WhatsApp
group, email jessica_mcgowan@yahoo.com.au or call Jessica on
0422 474 279.
