Home Testing Campaign
Each week many children up and down the country have to make a long journey to their hospital to have their blood checked as they are on Warfarin – a drug which thins the blood.
Some travel many many miles, numerous times a month and hate having to go to hospital – a place which isn’t full of good memories for them. There is for many a better way. For many children like Easton it is possible to have their INR monitored at home, with an INR Machine it is simple, quick. This means fewer missed school days, less distress and difficulties for the whole family.
Easton’s mum Caroline, “When we could home test with an INR machine our whole families lives changed for the better. Easton used to start getting upset as soon as we entered the hospital car park. We all have more control over our life, freedom to travel, greater control keeping Easton’s condition stable. It also means we can more easily down a job and Easton can attending school like the other children in his class”.
CHF along with other campaign partners are campaigning for INR machines to be provided on prescription for all those children who could be suitable. If you agree and want more children like Easton to benefit from home-monitoring PLEASE sign up to support the campaign
CHF meeting in Parliament: The need for better joined-up care for heart children
Representatives from CHF were in Parliament in November with other heart charities speaking to MPs about the need for joined up care for those with CHD.
Heart Teen Molly Rumble spoke passionately about her condition and the challenges she faced growing up with CHD. Anne Keatley-Clarke, Chief Executive of CHF spoke about the need for the very best care and the need for the better use of technology such as INR machines and Pulse Oximetery testing of all babies.
31 MPs have signed up to an EDM (a statement of support) so far which is fantastic, but we’d love to get as many MPs as possible to show that they put CHD at the top of their agenda, as well as the need for the absolute best care for all heart children. Please send a quick email to you MP asking them to sign ‘EDM 751: JOINED-UP CARE FOR CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE’
