ISS recognizes IKEA with 2017 Diversity Prize

Each year, ISS Denmark awards the ISS Diversity Prize to a company or organization that puts diversity at the centre of its strategy.

Velux A/S, IKEA and the DR Symphony Orchestra were nominated for the ISS Diversity Prize in 2017, with the winner being announced at the CBS Diversity Day, Copenhagen Business School’s annual event, which was held in late April. IKEA won the prize for their focus on diversity in their talent pool, which has improved the bottom line, innovation and their services to the company’s diverse customer base.

With nearly 500,000 employees across the world, ISS places diversity at the top of its own agenda, and its research has shown that investing in diversity increases employee engagement and bolsters the bottom line.

Lotte Hjortlund Andersen, Director of People & Culture for ISS Denmark, said: “The ISS Diversity Prize 2017 aims to highlight and reward companies that work with diverse talents as an integral part of their business. For ISS, diversity is a meaningful way to take corporate responsibility while also creating a positive impact on the bottom line.”

Lotte Hjortlund Andersen, Director of People & Culture for ISS Denmark, presented the ISS Diversity Prize to IKEA Denmark’s Country Talent Manager, Charlotte Jensen, emphasizing that IKEA won the award for their dedication to diversity in recruitment and to retaining employees through ongoing career development.

“The Danish job market increasingly faces a challenge with finding professionals with the right skills. It is essential that we can attract and retain diverse talents with qualifications that can increase our ability to compete at a global level and contribute to growth, innovation and development in the Danish business sector,” said Lotte Hjortlund Andersen.

More than 50 organisations were vetted by ISS, the ISS Diversity Prize jury and proacteur, a Danish consultancy. The three companies nominated for the finals were chosen based on their structured approach to diversity through policies, recruitment processes, and employee retention and development, as well as their ability to show how their strategic emphasis on diversity positively affected the bottom line.
