2 Kings 5:1-3, 14-15 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy. Now bands from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman's wife. She said to her mistress, "If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy." ... So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel."
THE SERVANT GIRL: FROM MAID TO MISSIONARY
Naaman's leprosy was certainly a heavy weight that he was carrying on his shoulders. It must have been on his mind every hour of every day. Do you know anyone in your life experiencing a similar struggle? All around us, even in our own churches, there are people weighed down by various trials of this life. Have you found yourself so burdened by some weight that it was the thought constantly on your mind?
The servant girl knew just how to lift that weight off Naaman's back. She led him to her Savior, the source of all healing for our bodies and our souls. Just think: a lowly, little servant girl was able to witness to one of the great military commanders of the day. She recognized that God was able to heal us from all diseases, from leprosy to sin, and so she could not hold back this good news from Naaman. As we are reminded of the Savior who has healed us from the worst form of leprosy (our own sin), we can go with the same confidence as the servant girl and remind others of the healing found in Christ.
We can learn from this girl. She may not have been famous (the Bible doesn't even tell us her name), but she had a message to share with those around her. It's a message worth telling. You can help to lift the weight off others as you tell them about Jesus their Savior! Let us join Peter and John in the proclamation, "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard!" (Acts 4:20).
The servant girl was very sure, That Na-a-man could find a cure.
The message she just had to tell, Was God could make the sick man well.
They loved their Savior; sang His praise.
They worshiped Him through-out their days.
For thankful champions they could be,
Since Jesus won the victory!
