Hello, Firstname

Newsletter Copy - Thankyou
A big thankyou to the members who rallied to the call for articles to fill the newsletter and so enable me to keep it going through these troubled times - these last few issues of have existed to a great extent because of their contributions. I have articles to cover the next few weeks, but looking into the future I am still going to need contributions, so please keep these wonderful collections of words coming and if you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as special on-line events or exhibitions, photographic hints, tips and tricks, etc. please let me know at the usual address: bpsnewsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk

On-Line Meetings
This week our meeting saw our first outside speaker via the wonderful medium of Zoom and the grand total of 68 members logged in.

Next Meeting.
Next Wednesday, the meeting will be presented by Guy Edwardes. Guy will be presenting a 1 hour talk on his wildlife work. Whilst he has many interests, his main passion is wildlife. He strives to use new techniques to produce unique images, not only on his doorstep in Dorset but from worldwide destinations. His website www.guyedwardes.com will give you a flavour of what is to come! This promises to be an evening not to miss.

Login details for the meeting are:

Meeting ID: 821 0248 1766
Password: 520-BPS

Start time: 19:30hrs (Meeting will be open from 19:15hrs)

The links to all meetings can be found in the Members' Area of the BPS website, details at the foot of this newsletter. If anyone would like to dial in via a landline/mobile for voice only then email zoom@bristolphoto.org.uk asking for details and they will be provided - this applies to all Zoom meetings, including the  DI Group.

DI Group - Monday 11 May
As BPS members are getting experienced in Zoom meetings the next DI meeting will be held as scheduled but online using Zoom. DI meetings are open to all and informal where members can show off their work but being online it has to be as jpg images. Unlike last time I would request you all to mute your microphones when the meeting starts and anyone wanting to make comments can unmute themselves temporarily by keeping the space bar pressed for the duration of their comments. Hopefully this will make the meetings more informal than the last one.
The presentations will be in the usual format – I will gather all images on my computer and call out the contributor to comment on his or her images as they are shown. I would like you to email the images to me and I will show them on my screen which everyone should be able to see on their screens. The speaker’s commentary should be audible to all if your Zoom software is set up correctly. All images will be deleted from my computer after the meeting just as they have been deleted from the club computer.
As before the images should be JPG format, sRGB colour space and keep the image size to 1600 x 1200 pixels as in the club competitions. The size restrictions will also allow me to receive the images as attachments within the 20 Mb limit per email. Alternatively send me via Dropbox (please send me a link to download from your computer). As I need time to arrange all images in a single folder for ease of presenting smoothly please send them to me by Sunday 10 May 6.00 pm. Please prefix the filename with 01, 02, 03 etc. so that they will be shown in that order if you wish.
Sorry I can’t offer chocolate biscuits but I am sure you will be sitting snugly with a drink in your hand and your favourite biscuits to go with it.

Give It A Caption
Thanks to Rob Gillet for this photo, which shows someone taking self isolation a bit far! Let's see how imaginative you can be and come up with a caption. Best ones will be published next week. Send captions to bpsnewsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk by Wednesday, 13 May.

Computer Shortcuts
BPS member, Kevin James, has sent in a couple of pdf files (attached) and which many of you might find useful. These are shortcut commands/keystrokes that you can use in Windows. I've had a quick look through these and there are many which look to be extremely useful. The files for both Windows and Apple systems.
Thanks Kevin.

CV-19 Competition
Well, the jury has cogitated and deliberated over the entries for Week 1 of the CV-19 Competition and the results are in:
1st Drone Delivery by Steve Field
2nd 169ft Should Do It by Steve Taylor
3rd= 6 feet by Paula Wride
3rd= Can't Hang Out You Guys, Sticking To 6 Feet Guidelines by John Albarran
A big thank you to all those who entered. Last week's theme, Hair Cuts didn't seem to engender the same type of enthusiasm as there has only been one entry. Maybe the subject was a bit too narrow. So, we'll try one more to see if it's worth carrying on, this time the subject is LOCKDOWN - which you can interpret any way you wish as long as it's related to the current situation (however loosely). If you have any other suggestions for themes, let me know at the usual address.
Closing date Wednesday 20 May. Image size not critical, but the usual club competition size will be fine. As for titles - just make sure that your initials are at the beginning of the title.

Memories During Lockdown
The following memories of lockdown from Joanne Searle:
We have two sons, one who lives locally and one who lives a distance away.
We are highly involved with our youngest son, and his family, who live in Long Ashton (we live in Winterbourne) and meet up on every occasion that presents itself.
The whole family have a love of St Ives having holidayed there when our sons were little. Every year since our granddaughter was 18 months of age we have had a week (or two) together in St Ives, living memories and making new ones.
Gracie, our granddaughter will be 16 in August and I have decided to create a book covering all the St Ives holidays, which I hope she will enjoy.
I want to portray the enjoyment, and as many of our experiences as I can over that period. Quite a daunting task as to know what to include and what to leave out as we have covered so many wonderful things. We always enjoy geocaching, which is great fun, so obviously need to include those.
While we are in lockdown, do you have memories that you would like to record for your family? Just an idea, but one that you might like to consider and I am sure you would find very rewarding.
Each year I have produced one of the DeLuxe Desk Calendars produced by Photobox and it has provided a lovely set of memories over many years.
I have always found them to be efficient and the printing is usually very acceptable www.photobox.co.uk
I am sure you will all be familiar with this company, but thought I would mention them as I have always been pleased with the results. However, you may use a different company which is more acceptable to you.
I promise I am not being paid commission!!!!
Best Wishes, keep well and stay safe.
Joanne.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
