Reality Leigh Winner, the 25-year-old Air Force veteran charged with leaking a document to The Intercept that brought to light Russian interference in U.S. election systems, is currently sitting in jail, awaiting trial after being denied bail.

The Department of Justice is using its unlimited resources to pursue the harshest possible sentence against Reality, and it’s up to us to give her a fighting chance by providing her the best defense possible. First Look Media, the publishers of The Intercept, have agreed to match every donation up to $50,000 until August 30th, so we need your donation today.

Thanks in part to the document Reality is charged with leaking, we now know the Russian government breached security in election systems in 39 states, and that state election officials resisted attempts to increase security before the 2016 election.

Instead of responding to this serious security threat, the Trump administration is engaging in an extremely harsh, disproportionate and selective prosecution of Reality as a political enemy, under the same law used to prosecute Chelsea Manning. They’re charging her as if she were an enemy spy, but taking no action against the actual spies attempting to sabotage the U.S. election.
