Hello Firstname

Wednesday 6 November
Next Wednesday we have the annual Keith Hewitt Lecture which this year is being given by Peter Gennard MFIAP EFIAP/p from the Midlands. The talk is entitled A Retrospective View and will show Peter's prints covering the period from 1987 to 2010. Peter is a prolific worker and examples of his work can be seen in exhibitions across the globe. He recently judged the first round of our Print Competition, so this is an ideal opportunity for you to pass judgement on his work!

Star Picture of the Week

This week's Star Picture was sent in by Rob Gillet and was taken in Cienfuegos, Cuba and shows Rob's ability to spot the quirky!
Don't wait for me to ask you for pictures, just send them and I will try to include them in a future edition of BPS in Focus

Kingswood Photographic Society warmly invites you to view their 64th Annual Exhibition of members’ prints and digitally projected images on Friday 8th November from 7.00pm until 9.00pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley BS30 5JJ.

This offers an excellent opportunity to see a display of our members’ best images. The judges, Leigh Preston FRPS, MPAGB, EFIAP, Brian Swinyard ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP/b, and Michael Krier ARPS have already decided on the awards.

Kingswood PS meets on Friday evenings at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol  BS30 5JJ. Normally the cost for non-members is £3.00 but tonight entrance is free. The refreshment drink and biscuit is courtesy of KPS.

We shall be delighted if you are able to join us and we hope that you enjoy our exhibition.

Performance
There is a free photography exhibition which will be taking place in Bristol from 16 – 20th November. It’s called Performance and is dedicated to everyone with the courage to be in the limelight. It was conceived early in 2012 as British excitement grew in anticipation of hosting the Olympics. Some of the photographs capture the tension, excitement and sheer spectacle of a remarkable sporting year. Others show the artistic events, from dance and theatre to street performance and music.

Entry is free and the exhibition is being held at Aztec 920 Park Avenue, Aztec West, Almondsbury, BS32 4SR and will be open daily from 10am to 3pm.

Please download their leaflet by licking on this link to see more details or visit their website at www.thephotographicangle.co.uk

A Chance For Some Festive Pocket Money!
We have received the following email from a marketing agency working for Canon:

We are a field marketing agency based in London and we work on behalf of Canon. We have three vacancies available for work at weekends and some mid-week during the festive period, from Mid-November to the end of January, demonstrating Canon cameras and printers in John Lewis and Currys stores in Bristol.

I wondered if you were able to pass on this information to you club?

It is a great opportunity to work with cameras and we have a team over nearly 100 staff across the UK which are made up of many photographers. The role is paid and two days sales and product training are given. We look for people who are passionate about cameras so I thought your club would be ideal.

Should anyone be interested or know anyone who is then please pass on my email address, jobs@ebigpicture.co.uk and I can go through all the details in full with them directly.

I hope this is of interest to some of your members.

Best regards
Alistair

If you're wondering to do with all that lovely cash you will have earned flogging Canon kit over the festive season, wonder no more! Shiv Verma from the PSA is organising several photographic tours next year to Iceland, Bosque, India and Japan. If you would like to see more about these trips, please click on the following links:
Please note: Although Shiv is a member of the PSA, these trips are being privately run by him.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Sue O'Connell who has won a few more gongs. Sue can now add a FIAP Silver medal (Cyprus International Salon), a PSHK Bronze medal (Hong Kong International Salon) and a Silver medal (Dingwall National Projected Image Exhibition) to her now rapidly growing collection. Sue has also just gained a BPE1 Crown distinction. Look out Mrs Duncan, there's a new kid on the block!

If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
