Huntsville Loses One of Its Own

It is with great sadness that we report the tragic loss of Gene Wahlstrom, who lived just off of 6800 East in Huntsville.  Gene was the pilot of a Navy P2 aircraft that had been converted to a Forest Service fire bomber.  The plane crashed on take off yesterday while departing from the Reno Stead Airport.

Apparently his plane suffered a mechanical or structural malfunction on takeoff, but Gene HEROICALLY and successfully maneuvered his plane away from a residential area, preventing the loss of life of those on the ground.  Here is a link to the associated press story.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Gene's wife Joyce and their extended family.  Gene was a great asset to our town and he will be greatly missed.

Town Council Meeting Thursday

Sincerely,

Richard L. Sorensen
