Local organizers and musicians with personal ties to Puerto Rico present a benefit festival event with food, poetry, and music on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6 to 9 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ithaca, New York. Proceeds will directly benefit several communities on the island associated with Ithaca based families, mostly on the western and central portions of Puerto Rico, whose residents are in crisis on all levels resulting from the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Suggested donation is $15 or $25 per family, though no one will be turned away.

Sunday, October 29, 2017, 4:00 PM, First Congregational Church, 309 Highland Road, A Concert of Turkish Music

This music expresses the refinement of an Islamic culture in which the ideal of beauty was held as an important value, as demonstrated through its much admired architecture, calligraphy, painting and poetry. What you will hear represents the high point of a musical tradition which matured as a form whose melodic and rhythmic subtleties place it among the great musical systems of the world. The concert is open to all, a freewill offering will be accepted from those who wish to support this special opportunity.
