Mark 9:2-3 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.

LOOKING AHEAD

The question is not really, "Will I face trouble?" Trouble comes to everyone. The question is, "How will I handle it when it comes?"

For Jesus, the way of the cross was looming large. The path was set for the death march to Jerusalem. The agony in the garden, the suffering, the mockery, the fake trial -- the days would turn dark and difficult for the Savior.

Yet before all this happened, He took Peter, James, and John with him onto a high mountain. There He was transfigured. It was a foretaste of what was to come. Standing there shining brightly in the majesty of the Son of God, all were reminded that the troubles would not last. After the suffering was over, Jesus would stand glorified and triumphant.

We too look ahead when the clouds turn dark above our heads. We look ahead to the days when we will stand with our Lord and Savior, glorified and rejoicing. "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:13b-14).
