Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM

I was once told a story about a young retarded boy who attended a summer camp. At this summer camp the other children quickly learned that he was very trusting. And so many jokes were made at this young retarded boy's expense.

On the last night of camp, the kids would put on skits for their parents who had returned to take them back home. For this fun night the kids were given the privilege of choosing one child to present the closing speech.

Well, you guessed it. The kids, reaching deep into that well of childhood cruelty, chose the same retarded boy that they had abused the whole week to speak before the huge crowd on closing night.

Somehow, no one put a stop to it, and the young retarded boy found himself walking timidly up to the podium. The whole room was silent.

He stood for a moment at the podium. It seemed like he wouldn't be able to speak, those big eyes all astonished and wide, but then he opened his mouth and struggled out the words, "Jesus Loves Me . . . and I love Jesus."

And at those simple words, nearly all began to weep. The boy standing before them would never master even the simplest daily tasks, and yet in his heart and on his tongue was the very wisdom of God Himself.
