LENT: HELP IN TIME OF NEED
Lent is a special time to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in this crazy world and to think about what our wonderful Savior has done for us.
But our Lenten observance will fall flat if we merely think about Jesus' sufferings and then fail to see their practical value for our daily lives. The Passion of the Christ was made into a movie, but the Passion of the Christ is not a movie. Lent is not just a spectacle we sit back and watch every year. God wants us to make real use of the wounds, the blood, the cross, each and every day our lives.
What is your need? Do you have sins that need forgiveness? We all do. Do you have fears that need to be quieted, and a heart that needs to be calmed? Who of us doesn't? Do you need help facing death? Death is something we certainly don't want to face alone.
Yes, Lent offers a stark reminder of our many sins and of our very frail nature. But Lent also tells us that we have practical help in the wounds and sacrifice of our Savior. At His cross we find real peace in the free and full forgiveness He won for all. We find courage for living in a fallen world, because we know our worst foes and fears have been forever defeated. We find a living and certain hope in the fact that the dead and buried Jesus is now our living and reigning Savior God. In Him we have eternal life. What could be more practical than that!
